Troubleshooting 05 Accent OBD2 Port: No Power for Diagnostics

I’m facing a frustrating issue with my 2005 Hyundai Accent where the OBD2 port seems to have no power. I’ve spent hours trying to diagnose why my scan tool can’t connect, and I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Here’s a summary of the problems and what I’ve checked so far.

Symptoms of the Electrical Issue

The main issue is that my OBD2 port is not working – no scan tool, even at the dealership, can read any data. Beyond this, I’ve noticed a few other electrical components are also non-functional:

  • Clock: The clock doesn’t power on or illuminate at all.
  • Audio System: The car radio is completely dead, with no signs of power.
  • Cigarette Lighter: While the connector is attached, it’s also not working, and I’ve confirmed there’s no short.

Initially, I suspected fuses, but I’ve checked all of them in both the under-hood and interior fuse boxes. The fuse for the room lamp is getting 12V, but the slot for the audio in the under-hood box doesn’t seem to be receiving any voltage.

Initial Checks: Fuses and Wiring

I understand that electrical problems can be complex, so I started with the basics. As mentioned, all fuses appear to be in good condition. Visually inspecting the main wiring harness, it seems undamaged, despite the car having been in a frontal accident before I purchased it.

I did find evidence of some previous electrical modifications. There was a spliced wire running from the interior power window fuse (my car doesn’t have power windows) to the passenger radiator fan, causing it to run constantly. The radiator and AC relays had also been swapped around. I’ve since corrected these modifications, returning the wiring to its factory configuration as best as I can.

Investigating Fuse Box Anomalies

Consulting the HMA Service website, I found that FUSE 14 in the interior fuse box is listed as being for the CLOCK and AUDIO. This seemed promising, but upon inspection, the Fuse 14 slot in my fuse box is empty. It has no metal teeth to hold a fuse and no wiring connected to the back of the slot. This seems unusual and possibly related to the problem.

I also noticed something at the bottom of the interior fuse box called JOINT CONNECTOR M31. According to the diagram, this connector appears to be a horizontal blade-style connector that bridges power between fuse slots 13, 14, 15, and 16. Could this Joint Connector M31 be faulty, preventing power from reaching the OBD2 port, clock, and audio system?

My Diode Z01 and Diode Z02 are oriented in the same direction as shown in the diagram, which I believe is correct.

Next Steps in Diagnosing the 05 Accent OBD2 Port Issue

At this point, I’m unsure where to proceed. Could a problem with the Joint Connector M31 cause these widespread electrical issues, including the lack of power to the 05 Accent Obd2 Port? Is there another fuse or relay I might be missing that controls power to these systems?

Any advice on further troubleshooting steps, particularly regarding the Joint Connector M31 or other potential causes for a dead OBD2 port, clock, and audio in a 2005 Hyundai Accent, would be greatly appreciated.
