OBD2 Interface for Dakota Digital Gauges: Access Vehicle Data

For automotive enthusiasts and performance drivers, real-time vehicle data is crucial. The Obd2 Interface serves as the key, and the Dakota Digital BIM-01-2 OBD-II Interface is engineered to seamlessly bridge your vehicle’s computer (ECM) with Dakota Digital gauges. This direct connection allows you to extract vital engine and transmission data, displaying it clearly on your Dakota Digital Instrument Systems.

Key Features of the OBD2 Interface:

This OBD2 interface, the BIM-01-2, unlocks a range of vehicle parameters for display on compatible Dakota Digital systems.

  • Universally Available Data: On most OBD-II equipped vehicles, you can access:

    • Speedometer readings
    • Tachometer (RPM)
    • Engine Temperature
    • Check Engine Light status
  • Vehicle-Specific Data: Depending on your vehicle’s ECM and sensors, the BIM-01-2 may also provide:

    • Intake Air Temperature
    • Transmission Temperature
    • Ambient Air Temperature
    • Gear Position
    • Oil Pressure
    • Boost Pressure

It’s important to note that the availability of vehicle-specific data such as Intake Temp, Transmission Temp, Ambient Air Temp, Oil Pressure, and Gear Position is dependent on your vehicle’s factory ECM and sensors. Dakota Digital cannot guarantee the presence or accuracy of these readings as it relies on the information provided by the vehicle’s computer.

Compatibility and Important Considerations:

The BIM-01-2 OBD2 interface is designed for vehicles utilizing J1850 and CAN OBD-II protocols. Specifically, it is compatible with OBD-II protocols SAE J1850 VPW, SAE J1850 PWM, and ISO 15765 CAN 500k 11 bit identifiers that adhere to the SAE J1979 PID protocol.

This interface seamlessly integrates with Dakota Digital GRFX, RTX, HDX, VHX, and VFD3 systems equipped with a black plastic control module. For BIM-compatible control boxes featuring a 3.5mm headphone jack BIM input, the 394194 adaptor harness is required. Please be aware that earlier instrument systems with an aluminum control module are not compatible with BIM connectivity.

Furthermore, it’s worth noting that GM Connect & Cruise packages may not transmit gear position data, which will prevent the BIM-01-2 from acquiring this specific information. If you have any concerns regarding compatibility with your particular vehicle, it is recommended to contact Dakota Digital’s sales or technical support department for clarification.

In summary, the BIM-01-2 OBD2 interface is a valuable tool for seamlessly integrating comprehensive vehicle data into your Dakota Digital instrument system. It offers a straightforward solution for monitoring essential engine and transmission parameters, enhancing your driving experience and providing critical vehicle insights.
