Atlanta. Porsche has announced the return of the enthusiast-favorite 911 Carrera T for the 2025 model year. This time, the celebrated model is not only available as a coupe but also makes its debut as a cabriolet, broadening the appeal for open-top driving purists. The latest iteration of the 911 Carrera T builds upon its predecessors’ successful formula, combining a sport-focused chassis with the standard 911 Carrera engine, a lightweight construction ethos, and, crucially, a six-speed manual gearbox as the only transmission option.
Performance and Powertrain of the 911 Carrera T
Under the hood, the 911 Carrera T utilizes the same potent 3.0-liter twin-turbo boxer engine found in the standard 911 Carrera. This engine delivers a robust 388 horsepower and 331 lb.-ft. of torque, ensuring exhilarating performance. The coupe variant achieves 0 to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds, while the cabriolet version accomplishes this feat in a mere 4.5 seconds. Both models offer impressive top speeds, with the coupe reaching 183 mph and the cabriolet hitting 182 mph on the track.
A defining feature of the 911 Carrera T is its standard six-speed manual transmission, channeling power to the rear wheels. This transmission uses the first six gears from the previous seven-speed manual found in the Type 992.1 Carrera models, optimized for driver engagement. A unique touch for the Carrera T is the gear lever, topped with a distinctive open-pore, laminated walnut handle, adding a tactile and visual element that sets this model apart with every gear change.
For seamless downshifts, the 911 Carrera T comes equipped with a standard auto-blip feature, automatically rev-matching the engine to the ideal transmission speed. Enthusiasts who prefer full control can manually disable this feature. The Sport Chrono package, standard on the Carrera T, further enhances the driving experience, providing a mode dial integrated into the leather-wrapped GT Sport steering wheel for quick selection of Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, and Wet driving modes. This package also includes the Porsche Track Precision app and a tire temperature display integrated into the instrument cluster. Complementing the performance focus is a standard Sport Exhaust system, coupled with reduced sound insulation, creating a more visceral and engaging auditory driving experience in the 911 Carrera T.
Chassis and Handling Dynamics of the 911 Carrera T
The 911 Carrera T’s chassis is meticulously engineered for sporty and responsive handling, making it a perfect companion for twisty roads. Standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is specifically tuned for the Carrera T’s dynamic character and is lowered by 10 millimeters compared to the standard 911 Carrera, enhancing its agility and road presence. The braking system is upgraded for this generation, featuring larger 350 mm brake discs both front and rear – an increase of 20 mm over the previous generation – and utilizing six-piston fixed calipers on the front axle in place of the predecessor’s four-piston calipers, providing enhanced stopping power.
The inclusion of standard rear-axle steering sharpens the steering response of the 911 Carrera T compared to the standard 911 Carrera. Revised front and rear anti-roll bars further contribute to the car’s enhanced agility and stability during spirited driving. Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), also standard, employs a mechanical rear differential lock and targeted brake inputs to optimize power delivery to the outer rear wheel during cornering, enhancing turn-in and traction. Carrera T-specific aerodynamic adjustments are also incorporated, contributing to the car’s overall balanced handling.
Completing the chassis setup are standard Carrera S alloy wheels, staggered in 20-inch diameter at the front and 21-inch at the rear. These wheels are shod with 245/35 ZR20 tires up front and wider 305/30 ZR21 tires at the rear, providing substantial grip and contributing to the 911 Carrera T’s confident handling.
Lightweight Construction and Material Choices in the 911 Carrera T
The 911 Carrera T is designed as a purist’s sports car, drawing inspiration from the original 911 T of 1968-1973. Like its historical predecessor, the modern Carrera T prioritizes driving engagement and reduced weight. This philosophy continues from the Type 991.2 and 992.1 generation Carrera T models and is central to the new 2025 iteration.
Lightweight glass, reduced sound deadening, and the standard six-speed manual transmission all contribute to a lower curb weight compared to the standard 911 Carrera, enhancing agility and responsiveness. Optional carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) bucket seats are available for customers seeking an even more focused driving experience and further weight reduction. In its lightest coupe configuration, the 911 Carrera T weighs in at just 3,316 lbs, making it the lightest in the 911 Carrera range.
911 Carrera T Exterior and Interior Design Elements
Visually, the 911 Carrera T distinguishes itself through unique exterior accents. Vanadium Grey Metallic is applied to the side mirror covers, wheels, door model designation decals, and rear badging. The Sport Exhaust system features tailpipes finished in black stainless steel. Adding a subtle nod to its manual transmission, the rear side windows feature special decals depicting the manual shift pattern. Unlike previous generations where wheels were fully painted in the accent color, the new model features two-tone wheels with partially machined, high-gloss faces. The front spoiler lip, adopted from the 911 Carrera GTS models, further enhances the sporty aesthetics.
Porsche offers a palette of 12 paint colors for the 911 Carrera T, harmonizing with the Vanadium Grey accents. These range from classic solid black and white to more vibrant options like Cartagena Yellow Metallic, Shade Green Metallic, and Chalk, allowing for personalization.
An optional Carrera T exterior package introduces Gentian Blue accents to select exterior elements, including the wheels, rear model designation, intake slat inlays, door graphics, and a hood stripe with a Carrera T logo. This package also substitutes the standard Vanadium Grey mirror shells with black ones for a bolder contrast.
Inside, the standard interior features Vanadium Grey trim on the dashboard and center console, adding a touch of refinement. The door panel trims are finished in black anodized aluminum. A distinctive shift pattern logo is subtly integrated into the dashboard on the passenger side, and a special “MT” badge is positioned in front of the gear lever, reinforcing the manual transmission focus.
Standard seating in the 911 Carrera T includes black, four-way power-adjustable heated Sport Seats Plus, along with a heated, leather-wrapped GT Sport steering wheel. Customers have the option to upgrade to a leather interior in place of the standard Race-Tex. The standard seats feature Sport-Tex centers with a Black plaid pattern, complemented by decorative black stitching and embroidered black “911” logos. Optional 18-way Sport Seats Plus and fixed-back CFRP Full Bucket seats are also available for further customization. While the coupe version is configured as a two-seater from the factory, rear seats are standard in the Cabriolet and can be added to the coupe as a no-cost option.
An exclusive 911 Carrera T interior package offers Gentian Blue as a contrasting thread for the decorative stitching, extending the accent color to the seat belts, center console and dashboard inserts, “911” logo on the headrests, and trim rings in the instrument cluster and Sport Chrono clock. The black plaid seat centers also receive Gentian Blue accents with this package. For a more understated interior, Sport-Tex Plaid or full leather interior packages are available at an additional cost.
