Navigating the menus of an OBD2 scanner can sometimes feel like deciphering a complex code, even for seasoned DIY mechanics. Recently, I had the opportunity to put the Launch X431 scanner to the test on a 2024 4Runner and a 2023 RAV4, specifically to explore the customization features for windows, alarms, and seat settings. While the scanner proved capable of accessing these programmable options, the journey wasn’t exactly straightforward. It became clear that menu structures can vary depending on whether you initiate the scan using the ‘Toyota’ button or through VIN autodetect.
This guide outlines my experience and provides step-by-step instructions to help you locate and utilize the customization settings on your Toyota vehicle using a Launch Obd2 Scanner.
Accessing Toyota Customization Settings via the ‘Toyota’ Button
This method involves manually selecting your vehicle’s make and model, which leads to a specific menu pathway. Here’s how to do it:
- Begin by connecting your Launch OBD2 scanner to your vehicle’s OBD port. Ensure the ignition is turned to the “ON” position, although the engine does not need to be running.
- From the scanner’s home screen, select “Diagnostics”.
- Instead of using the autodetect function, tap the ‘Toyota’ button. This manual selection is key to accessing this particular menu structure.
- On the subsequent screen, choose “16 pin DLC”.
- The scanner will initiate a scan, retrieve your vehicle information, and then prompt you to hit “OK”.
- You will now be presented with a menu featuring several options, including “Health Report,” “System Selection,” “Service Function,” “Customize Setting,” and “Vehicle Info.”
- Select “Customize setting”. This is your gateway to the programmable features. From here, navigate through the sub-menus to locate and modify settings for windows, interior lighting, seat warming, and other customizable functions.
