Experiencing issues with your 2002 Infiniti I35’s OBD2 port can be frustrating, especially when the check engine light illuminates. Recently, while driving my Infiniti I35, the check engine light appeared, signaling a potential issue. Like many car owners, my first step was to reach for my OBD2 scanner to diagnose the problem. However, this time, the scanner failed to connect – the OBD2 port seemed completely dead. Trying the scanner on another vehicle confirmed the scanner was working correctly, pointing to a problem specific to my 2002 Infiniti I35.
This issue led me to recall a previous incident while working on the car’s antenna, where I accidentally blew a couple of 7.5 amp fuses related to “ELEC PARTS”. This fuse, located in the fuse box (typically the 3rd row from the right at the top), also controls the car’s clock. Noticing the clock was also non-functional, I suspected a connection between the blown fuse and the dead OBD2 port.
The following image illustrates the location of the ELEC PARTS fuse within the fuse box.
Upon inspecting the fuse box and locating the “ELEC PARTS” fuse, I found it was indeed blown. After replacing this 7.5 amp fuse, the OBD2 port miraculously sprang back to life, and the car clock started working again too.
Therefore, if you encounter a situation where your 2002 Infiniti I35’s OBD2 port is unresponsive, and you also notice that your car clock is not functioning, checking the “ELEC PARTS” fuse should be your first step. A blown 7.5 amp fuse in this position can disrupt power to both the OBD2 port and the clock. Often, this fuse can be blown due to a short in the radio antenna system. Addressing the short and replacing the fuse promptly will restore the functionality of both your OBD2 port and clock, ensuring you’re ready to diagnose any future check engine light issues with your OBD2 scanner.
