2022 Polestar 2: Driving Dynamics and Interior Comfort Review

The 2022 Polestar 2 presents a compelling option in the electric vehicle market, particularly for those prioritizing a refined driving experience and a focus on interior comfort. From behind the wheel, the PS2 immediately impresses with its planted and stable feel on the road. Navigating sharp turns reveals a moderately stiff steering response, effectively minimizing body roll and promoting a composed and level driving sensation. Interestingly, despite its sedan classification, the Polestar 2 can feel somewhat substantial, lending a sense of assuredness and control in various driving conditions. This feeling of command is a significant highlight, instilling confidence behind the wheel in diverse scenarios. It’s a level of control that surpasses many vehicles, even within the luxury segment, offering a genuinely connected driving experience.

However, the driving experience isn’t without its nuances. One notable drawback is the limited rear window visibility. The narrowness of the rear window is surprisingly restrictive, bordering on what one might expect in a coupe rather than a sedan of this size. This design choice, while perhaps stylistically driven, compromises rearward vision. Despite this limitation, lane changes are still manageable thanks to generously sized side mirrors and a well-executed blind spot collision warning system. Polestar’s approach to the blind spot warning is commendable; instead of subtle, easily missed indicators, they employ a more prominent and therefore more effective warning light, enhancing driver awareness. When reversing, reliance on the rear and 360° cameras becomes almost essential due to the restricted rear window. While functional for maneuvering, the camera picture quality, disappointingly, lacks sharpness, especially when considering the premium positioning of the 2022 Polestar 2. Nevertheless, these camera systems adequately serve their purpose in assisting with parking and reversing.

Moving to the interior, the rear seats of the 2022 Polestar 2 offer a surprisingly cozy and inviting atmosphere. For average-sized adults, like someone around 5’8″, headroom remains ample, ensuring comfort even on longer journeys. Legroom in the rear is also generous, contributing to passenger comfort. A slight compromise arises from the central tunnel, a remnant of the Polestar 2’s multi-energy platform, which slightly impinges on legroom for the middle seat passenger. Realistically, the rear seats comfortably accommodate two adults, while three can manage for shorter trips under an hour. The front seats, however, are where the luxury elements of the 2022 Polestar 2 truly come to the fore. Both driver and front passenger seats feature power adjustments, allowing for precise customization of seating position. Adding to the premium feel, Polestar includes extendable seat cushions for enhanced thigh support. This feature, increasingly common in luxury vehicles but still a welcome addition, significantly improves seating posture and comfort, particularly during extended periods behind the wheel or when stuck in traffic.

Regarding material choices, Polestar has adopted a forward-thinking approach with a focus on sustainability. The seats are upholstered in WeaveTech, a vegan fabric that represents Polestar’s commitment to eco-conscious materials. This vegan cloth, while not traditional leather, is well-assembled and conveys a sense of quality through precise stitching and panel alignment. Throughout the cabin of the 2022 Polestar 2, there’s a noticeable absence of overtly cheap materials. The exceptions are some harder plastic elements around the door areas and the glossy piano black trim on the center console. Fortunately, the piano black, known for attracting fingerprints and dust, is limited to the center console and a small portion of the steering wheel, minimizing its potential to detract from the overall interior ambiance.
