This is reflected in its market-specific powertrain portfolio, featuring unique offerings for China, BMW’s most significant sales region, and a diesel variant for the European market. This new generation of BMW luxury sedans elevates spaciousness to unprecedented levels. Unlike previous iterations, the 2023 7 Series will be exclusively available worldwide as a long-wheelbase model, maximizing rear passenger space. Its multifaceted character is further defined by distinctive design elements and powertrain choices. The 2023 7 Series lineup also incorporates models from BMW i and BMW M, showcasing a spectrum of attributes – from refined modernity and sustainability to expressive sportiness and dynamism.
For the first time, the 2023 7 Series presents a choice of combustion engines, plug-in hybrid systems, and all-electric powertrains. This powertrain diversity is enabled by a newly developed, adaptable vehicle architecture, reflecting a global model strategy for this new BMW 7 Series generation. This strategic approach empowers the BMW Group to effectively address individual customer needs, infrastructure considerations, and regulatory landscapes across diverse automotive markets worldwide. The European market launch will initially feature the BMW i7 exclusively. In the USA, China, and other select regions, two models equipped with petrol engines and 48V mild hybrid technology will be available alongside the all-electric variant at launch.
Plug-in hybrid versions of the 2023 7 Series are anticipated to roll out in numerous markets starting in early 2023. These will include the debut of the first BMW M model with a six-cylinder in-line petrol engine and plug-in hybrid drive system. A diesel engine variant with 48V mild hybrid technology will join the European lineup shortly after the initial market launch. Further iterations of the all-electric BMW i7, including the future flagship BMW i7 M70 xDrive, are slated for release at a later date.
Continuing a legacy, the 2023 7 Series will be manufactured at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, the company’s largest European production facility. This plant, a center of excellence for e-drive component production, blends tradition with future-forward manufacturing. The highly integrated electric drive system and high-voltage battery for the BMW i7 will also be produced here. Vehicles with combustion engines, plug-in hybrid systems, and all-electric drive systems will all be assembled on the same production line in Dingolfing, alongside the all-electric BMW iX, the BMW 8 Series luxury sports car, and BMW 5 Series models.
