As a proud owner of the 2024 Bmw M3 Cs, I’m sharing my firsthand experience after putting 8,900 miles on this incredible machine, including around 500 track miles. My aim is to provide a real-world perspective on how the M3 CS holds up as both a daily driver and a capable track weapon. While my observations are specific to the CS model, many will resonate with owners of other BMW M3 variants. Spoiler alert: the M3 CS has truly surpassed my expectations.
Living with the M3 CS: Everyday Usability and Practicality
From the moment I took delivery, the M3 CS has seamlessly integrated into my daily life across all seasons. It’s genuinely enjoyable to drive whether I’m navigating city streets, cruising on back roads, or pushing its limits on the track. This car handles everything I throw at it: grocery runs, transporting passengers, luggage for trips, and serving both business and personal needs. Remarkably, I’ve encountered no mechanical issues, rattles, or unwanted cabin noises. Even stop-and-go traffic becomes manageable thanks to the integrated technology, making those tedious commutes much less stressful.
What truly stands out is the M3 CS’s dual personality. It’s docile and comfortable when you need it to be, yet instantly transforms into a beast when you unleash its power. Contrary to some reviews, I find the steering and brakes to be highly communicative. While it took a few autocross and track sessions to fully grasp the nuances, I now feel deeply connected to the car’s feedback. After eight track days and four autocross events, I have developed a strong sense of intuition for its behavior and limits.
The compromises inherent to the CS variant, such as the absence of traditional cup holders and an armrest, have proven to be non-issues for me. For drinks, a Yeti tumbler fits perfectly in the door cup holder. Even on longer drives exceeding two hours, the lack of an armrest hasn’t bothered me.
Honestly, there hasn’t been a single situation where I wished I were in a different vehicle. My only minor gripes are that the car attracts more attention than I typically prefer, despite choosing the Black Sapphire Metallic color, it still has a commanding presence. However, I’ve thankfully avoided unwanted attention from law enforcement, even without a front license plate.
Being BSM, it does require more frequent washing and detailing than I’m used to. However, I’ve actually grown to enjoy the 3-4 hour detailing process. Once clean, the car is simply stunning.
Cost of Ownership and Maintenance Insights
Over the past 15 months, the total cost of ownership has been $9,940. This figure encompasses all maintenance, parts, labor, insurance, and track/autocross fees, but excludes fuel and monthly car payments.
Consumables and Wear & Tear:
To ensure optimal performance and longevity, I’ve proactively performed three engine oil changes. The rear differential oil was changed during the break-in service. For track days, I switched to Pagid RSL29 track pads (and have since reverted to the original pads for street use). I’ve also gone through two sets of front tires, replacing them with lightly used replacements to manage costs.
Here’s a comparison of the front brake pads: the RSL29 track pads (right) and the original pads (left).
Despite my careful driving, I did unfortunately damage a section of the front spoiler. Thankfully, it’s a smaller, separately replaceable piece, but the repair will still be somewhat costly.
I also sustained a minor dent to the front radiator, which currently doesn’t require immediate attention.
Final Verdict: A Driver’s Car Through and Through
The 2024 BMW M3 CS is definitively not a plush luxury cruiser, and that’s precisely its appeal! It’s firm and responsive, but strikes an ideal balance – not jarringly uncomfortable or overly hardcore. The suspension tuning is spot-on for this car, offering minimal body roll while maintaining acceptable road compliance. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires are excellent on both dry and wet roads and perform reasonably well on track, though they can overheat relatively quickly under sustained track use. However, they are near-perfect for autocross events.
As a driver, every moment behind the wheel of the M3 CS is a joy. Passengers have consistently felt comfortable and never wished for a different vehicle. Recently, my wife and I enjoyed a long drive through scenic farm roads, mountains, and charming villages, listening to our favorite music, engaging in great conversations, and stopping at local farmers markets. The M3 CS enhanced every aspect of the journey.
Upcoming Maintenance and Modifications:
My winter to-do list for the M3 CS includes: (1) replacing the damaged front spoiler piece, (2) acquiring dedicated track tires, (3) installing a fresh set of RSL29 pads, (4) rebuilding the calipers, (5) getting a new alignment, and (6) performing engine and transmission oil changes.
In conclusion, I have no unmet desires or needs from a car. Perhaps just a tad less attention-grabbing presence would be perfect. Overall, the 2024 BMW M3 CS is a perfect vehicle, a worthwhile investment, and a keeper for the long haul. I hope fellow owners are enjoying theirs even more! Happy Thanksgiving!
