The inclusion of wireless phone charging, which works perfectly with my iPhone 14 even with an Otterbox case, is a welcome surprise, especially considering this feature was absent in my previous Ridgeline. Wireless CarPlay integrates seamlessly, and given the lack of built-in navigation, it’s an essential feature that functions flawlessly.
Things to Consider Before Buying the 2024 Honda HRV
While overwhelmingly positive, there are a few aspects potential buyers should be aware of.
CVT Lag from a Stop
The CVT, while generally smooth, lacks a launch gear found in some competitors like Toyota. This results in a slight hesitation when accelerating aggressively from a complete stop. While 0-60 mph times are not a priority for most daily drivers, those expecting immediate off-the-line responsiveness might be slightly disappointed. Basic Rear Seat Amenities
The rear passenger area is quite basic, lacking features like power outlets, air conditioning vents, or a center armrest. The cupholders in the door panels are also quite small. Considering this is the top EX-L trim, the absence of at least some of these features is surprising. While grab handles are provided, the omission of more practical amenities is a minor drawback.
Missing Features
Several small but potentially desirable features are absent. There’s no eyeglass holder, console box or glove box illumination, and no temperature gauge on the instrument panel. The absence of a front 12-volt outlet is also inconvenient, although a 12-volt outlet is available in the cargo area. The horn is also a single-note type and not particularly loud.
Low-Quality Dipstick
Perhaps the most perplexing cost-cutting measure is the incredibly cheap oil dipstick. Its plastic handle and pressed-on plastic tip feel flimsy and difficult to read, especially when the oil is clean. The long-term durability of this dipstick design is questionable, and a simpler, more robust design would have been preferable.
