The BMW i7 exemplifies the fusion of an exclusive driving experience and supreme on-board well-being with a steadfast dedication to sustainability.

This generational shift at the pinnacle of BMW’s offerings introduces a redefined concept of luxury. Forty-five years after the BMW 7 Series first debuted, this seventh generation model emerges as the most sophisticated and innovative vehicle in the luxury segment. Its overall design coherence is unmatched, setting it apart from competitors. The BMW 7 Series once again stands as a testament to the BMW Group’s innovative prowess.

The global premiere of the new BMW 7 Series in April 2022, followed by its market launch starting in November 2022, are pivotal milestones in the brand’s current luxury segment model offensive.

Market-Specific Powertrain Options and Heritage-Rich Production

The new BMW 7 Series is engineered to appeal to discerning customers in a globalized market. This is reflected in its market-specific powertrain portfolio, including exclusive offerings for China, BMW’s largest sales region, and a diesel variant for Europe.

This new generation of BMW luxury sedans introduces a new dimension of spaciousness. Unlike previous models, the new BMW 7 Series will be available worldwide exclusively in a long-wheelbase configuration, maximizing rear passenger space. Its diverse character is shaped by specific design elements and powertrain choices. The BMW 7 Series range now also encompasses models from BMW i and BMW M brands, emphasizing its wide spectrum of attributes – from elegant, modern, and sustainable to expressive, sporty, and dynamic.

For the first time, the new BMW 7 Series offers a choice of combustion engines, plug-in hybrid systems, and all-electric drive. This powertrain diversity is enabled by a newly developed flexible vehicle architecture, reflecting a global model strategy for this BMW 7 Series edition. This approach allows the BMW Group to cater to individual customer needs, infrastructure considerations, and regulatory landscapes across global automotive markets. The European market launch will initially feature only the BMW i7. In the USA, China, and other selected regions, two models equipped with petrol engines and 48V mild-hybrid technology will be offered alongside the all-electric variant at launch.

Plug-in hybrid versions of the new BMW 7 Series are anticipated to arrive in numerous markets starting in early 2023. These will include the first BMW M model with a six-cylinder in-line petrol engine and plug-in hybrid drive system. A diesel engine variant with 48V mild-hybrid technology will join the European lineup shortly after the market launch. Further iterations of the all-electric BMW i7, including the future flagship BMW i7 M70 xDrive, will be introduced at a later date.

Continuing the tradition of its predecessors, the new BMW 7 Series will be manufactured at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing. This, the company’s largest European production facility, blends tradition with future-forward manufacturing and serves as BMW Group’s center of excellence for e-drive component production. The highly integrated electric drive system and high-voltage battery for the BMW i7 will also be produced there. Vehicles with combustion engines, plug-in hybrid systems, and all-electric powertrains will all be assembled on the same production line in Dingolfing. In addition to the all-electric BMW iX and the new BMW 7 Series, the BMW 8 Series luxury sports car and BMW 5 Series models are also produced at this facility.

Two BMW M Models Based on the New BMW 7 Series

The global BMW 7 Series model range will expand to include two BMW M models featuring electrified powertrains. The new BMW M760e xDrive, boasting 420 kW/571 hp output and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, is slated for release as early as spring 2023. Its electric motor provides a temporary power boost of 30 kW/40 hp for enhanced acceleration. M-specific exterior and interior design cues, including a distinctive twin-tailpipe exhaust system with unique geometry, emphasize the performance DNA of this BMW M plug-in hybrid model.

The future flagship model, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive, will feature an all-electric powertrain with dual motors – one on each axle – and is expected later in 2023. Its drive system will generate over 600 hp maximum output and more than 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of maximum torque. This most powerful road-legal BMW model ever will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 4.0 seconds. (All performance and energy consumption figures for the BMW i7 M70 xDrive are preliminary estimates based on the vehicle’s current development phase, including temporary boost.)

Unparalleled Digital Experience with BMW iDrive and Operating System 8

Driving pleasure, long-distance comfort, and the user experience in the new BMW 7 Series are significantly enhanced by the latest digital innovations. The new BMW 7 Series introduces the multi-sensory BMW iDrive vehicle experience, powered by the newest generation of BMW Operating System 8. Featuring the fully digital BMW Curved Display, the innovative BMW Interaction Bar, enhanced BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant capabilities, additional My Modes, the latest iteration of the BMW Head-Up Display, and the Augmented View function (a first for the information display behind the steering wheel), intuitive interaction between driver and vehicle reaches a new zenith.

Rear passengers are treated to a unique entertainment offering in the form of the new BMW Theatre Screen – a 31.3-inch panoramic display with 8K resolution and a 32:9 format. This screen descends from the roof, transforming the rear seating area into an exclusive private cinema on wheels. Front passengers can now also enjoy YouTube video-on-demand streaming on the control display. A 5G-compatible antenna system ensures high-speed connectivity within the new BMW 7 Series.

Enhanced Security: The BMW 7 Series Protection Vehicle Specification

A high-security variant of the new BMW 7 Series is under development and will be added to the range in 2023. Featuring a unique, fully integrated protection concept developed from the ground up, this armored model caters to the specific security needs of authorities, state representatives, and high-profile individuals requiring specialized protection.

The development of this high-security BMW 7 Series prioritizes an innovative protection concept by the BMW Group. This delivers exceptionally high security standards while maintaining the interior comfort, driving dynamics, and ride quality synonymous with the new BMW 7 Series range. Integrated development and specialized manufacturing processes at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing will ensure this high-security BMW 7 Series sets new benchmarks in its segment.
