Enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the all-electric Bmw I3 sedan have a date to mark on their calendars. While the next-generation iX3 crossover is anticipated later this year, the i3 sedan is generating significant buzz. BMW has officially confirmed that pre-production for the “NA0” i3 sedan will commence in Munich before the close of 2025. However, according to emerging reports, series production for this pioneering Neue Klasse electric sedan is slated to begin in July 2026, initially targeting European markets.
Reports from credible BMW insiders, frequently active on Bimmer Post forums, suggest that while European customers will be the first to receive the i3 sedan, those in the United States will need to exercise a bit more patience. The first US-spec BMW i3 sedans are reportedly scheduled to roll off the assembly line in November 2026. These dates, while still unconfirmed by BMW’s official channels, are considered reliable given the source’s track record within the BMW community.
Visual previews through spy photographs have already indicated a strong design resemblance between the forthcoming i3 sedan and the next iteration of the BMW 3 Series, known internally as “G50.” Considering their respective debut timelines, it might be more accurate to say the 3 Series will mirror the i3’s design language. Both models’ designs were finalized under the direction of former BMW Group Head of Design, Domagoj Dukec, suggesting a parallel development timeline for these closely related vehicles.

Further reinforcing the design synergy between the electric i3 and the combustion engine 3 Series, rumors are circulating about shared wheel designs. Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Group’s head of design, previously hinted at the converging aesthetics of future electric and internal combustion engine models. Interestingly, the i3 sedan, built upon the Neue Klasse architecture, might even position itself as a slightly more premium offering compared to the next 3 Series, potentially boasting exclusive features like optional massage seats.

For BMW purists who prefer the traditional combustion engine, the next-generation 3 Series (G50) is also anticipated to commence production in November 2026. The initial flagship model is expected to be the M350 xDrive, with the high-performance M3 (G84) variant projected to join the production lineup in July 2028. A significant shift in production strategy will see the successor to the current Munich-built 3 Series being manufactured in Dingolfing. BMW has previously announced its Munich plant’s transition to exclusive EV production by 2027, underscoring the brand’s commitment to electric mobility.
