Witness the stunning transformation of a 2007 E91 318i M-Sport into a bespoke Bmw M3 Touring. This remarkable DIY project showcases the dedication and skill involved in creating a dream car from the ground up. Utilizing a donor E90 M3, this enthusiast has successfully merged the practicality of the E91 Touring with the raw power and performance of the iconic M3.
The conversion is extensive, incorporating the M3 engine and gearbox (DCT), full suspension now upgraded to KW V3 Coilovers, driveshafts, cradles, exhaust system, propshaft, and the complete wiring loom from the rear of the E91. The front panels and lights are also M3 components, seamlessly integrated with a full M3 interior. Notably, the rear seat backrests were expertly adapted from the E90 M3 and re-trimmed to fit the E91 seats, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail. Even the door panels received similar treatment, with the addition of rear speakers to enhance the audio experience.
One of the most challenging aspects of this build was the custom fabrication of the rear quarter panels and bumper. The fenders were skillfully created by combining the wheel arches from an E90 M3 with the E91 quarter panels. Similarly, the rear bumper is a hybrid, expertly splicing the E90 M3 bumper with the E91 M Sport version. This intricate bodywork ensures the car maintains the aggressive stance and aesthetics of the M3 while retaining the Touring body style.
The entire project spanned approximately six months, encompassing stripping the E91, painting the engine bay, installing the M3 engine, gearbox, and running gear, tackling the electrical work, another full repaint, and finally assembling the complete vehicle followed by ECU and module programming. Future enhancements are already in progress, including the installation of 6-pot Big Brake Kits (BBK) for the front wheels, indicated by the yellow calipers ready for fitting, and a planned upgrade to the CIC navigation system. Cosmetic improvements are also underway with touch-up paint to ensure a flawless finish.
This BMW M3 Touring conversion stands as a testament to passion and automotive expertise. While a carbon fiber roof – not available on the E90 M3 – was not incorporated, the level of detail and commitment poured into this project is undeniable. The result is a unique and highly desirable BMW M3 Touring, blending performance and practicality in a truly bespoke package.
