- Incorrectly Installed Coil Wire Plugs: This was an immediate issue, resulting in a tow back to the dealership shortly after purchase. It’s concerning to have such a fundamental engine component improperly installed from the factory, leading to immediate operational failure.
- Paint Blemishes and Respray on Driver Door: Upon closer inspection, noticeable paint blemishes were discovered on the driver’s side door. This required a respray, indicating a flaw in the factory paint application process. Quality paintwork is expected, and this issue detracts from the new vehicle aesthetic.
- Crooked Emblems: Misaligned emblems may seem minor, but they speak to a lack of attention to detail in assembly. These visual imperfections are easily noticeable and contribute to a general impression of rushed or careless manufacturing.
- Incompletely Installed Door Trim: Sections of the door trim were not properly secured, indicating incomplete assembly. This not only affects the appearance but could also lead to further issues down the line with weather sealing and component integrity.
- Uneven Door Shapes and Wind Noise: A significant issue is the noticeable difference in the shape of the front and rear doors near the windows. This discrepancy creates an air gap, resulting in a whistling noise at highway speeds. This is not only irritating but also suggests potential aerodynamic inefficiencies and further build quality concerns.
- Missing Wheel Arch Hardware and Separation: The wheel arches are detaching from the body due to missing hardware. This is a functional issue, potentially exposing the vehicle to corrosion and further damage, and is another example of incomplete assembly.
- Sagging Headliner: The headliner is sagging to the point of being visible from the exterior of the truck. This is a significant interior defect and impacts the overall cabin ambiance and perceived quality.
- Visible Floor Through Carpet Seams: Poor carpet installation with visible floor seams detracts from the interior finish and reinforces the feeling of subpar build quality.
- Roof Cave-In at Car Wash: Perhaps the most alarming issue is that the roof caved in when using a standard car wash – the same car wash used without issue for the past decade on other vehicles. This suggests a weakness in the roof structure and raises serious concerns about the structural integrity of the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2. I even provided the dealership with Bulletin No.: 23-NA-209, updated in March 2024, related to potential roof issues, but they have been unresponsive and claim to not understand the problem.
The dealership has addressed some of these issues, including the coil wire plugs, paint respray, emblems, and door trim. However, the whistling air gap, wheel arch separation, sagging headliner, carpet seams, and most notably, the roof cave-in issue remain unresolved. The lack of response regarding the roof issue, even after providing the relevant service bulletin, is particularly concerning and undermines confidence in the dealer’s service and the manufacturer’s attention to these widespread problems.
Despite these significant build quality issues, I must admit that the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 is enjoyable to drive. The truck’s performance is commendable for its size, and it certainly has an appealing aesthetic, at least from a distance. However, the numerous and varied build quality problems detract significantly from the overall ownership experience. My intention in sharing these issues is to provide a realistic perspective for potential buyers considering the Chevy Colorado ZR2 2024 and to initiate a discussion among current owners about similar experiences and potential solutions. It’s important for Chevrolet to address these 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 build quality issues to ensure customer satisfaction and maintain the ZR2’s reputation.
