Chevy Spark EV Revived: GM Shakes Up Export Markets with Affordable Electric EUV

General Motors is electrifying its global strategy by bringing back the Chevy Spark name, not just once, but twice! The all-new Chevy Spark EUV is an affordable electric vehicle with a targeted 249-mile range, poised to be a “game changer” in accelerating GM’s EV transition within key export markets. This strategic move cleverly leverages Chinese EV technology to make significant inroads in the electric vehicle landscape.

It appears Chevrolet has adopted the adage, “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em,” by capitalizing on China’s advancements in EV technology. The Spark EUV is essentially a rebranded Baojun Yep Plus SUV, born from the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture, showcasing a smart approach to rapidly introduce competitive EVs to global markets.

Introducing the 2026 Chevy Spark EUV, a compact, stylish, and practical four-door crossover with a design reminiscent of the Bronco. This model is strategically aimed at capturing the attention of consumers in South America, Africa, and the Middle East, markets ripe for accessible and appealing electric vehicles.

Much like its Baojun sibling, the 2026 Chevy Spark EUV is propelled by a single 75 kW (101 hp) electric motor, delivering 180 Nm (130 lb-ft) of torque to the front wheels. It draws power from a 42 kWh LFP battery pack, a robust and cost-effective chemistry, enabling a driving range of up to 360 km (220 miles) based on the NEDC cycle, thanks in part to regenerative braking.

The interior of the new Chevy Spark is equipped with modern technology expected by today’s drivers. It features a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, integrating essential vehicle information and entertainment functions. Notably, the Spark EUV comes standard with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is an interesting inclusion, especially considering GM’s publicly stated concerns about these systems causing “unsafe” driver behavior in North America. This suggests a differentiated market strategy, prioritizing connectivity features for export markets.

“Built to turn heads and spark excitement, the 2026 Chevrolet Spark EUV debuts in the ACTIV trim, boasting a bold, boxy exterior, a sleek two-tone roof, and sporty 16” wheels. Compact yet spacious, it’s the perfect everyday runner, offering seamless balance of practicality, driving dynamics and personality.”

“And for those who love to stand out, the Spark EUV offers six vibrant color options, including Sea Blue with a Polar White roof, Track Yellow, Tiger Blue, Gentle Gray with a Star Twinkle Black roof, and Milky Tea. But personalization doesn’t stop there – drivers can further customize their Spark EUV with exclusive accessories like Ground Effects for the front and rear, Side Moldings, Assist Steps, and Side and Rear Storage Boxes.”

“Whether you’re an adventurer, gaming enthusiast, music lover, sports fan or someone who enjoys pop culture, a range of unique accessories and themes ensures your Spark EUV stands out and feels uniquely yours.”

Chevy Spark EUV: Designed to Electrify New Markets

According to Jack Uppal, President and Managing Director of General Motors Africa and Middle East, “The Chevrolet Spark EUV is the coolest and most attainable vehicle in its segment – and is positioned to drive EV adoption in the Middle East.” He further emphasizes the personalization aspect, stating, “Not only is it fun to drive, but the Chevrolet Spark EUV also offers customers the chance to personalize their vehicle with a variety of customization options, making it uniquely their own.”

The 2026 Chevy Spark EUV leverages existing R&D and tooling investments from the Baojun platform, which helps to maintain a competitive price point. However, to keep costs down, the charging capability is capped at 50 kW. While this is considerably less than the faster charging speeds offered by premium EVs like Tesla or cutting-edge Chinese brands, it’s a practical compromise for affordability in its target markets.

The Chevrolet Spark EUV is slated to arrive in dealerships across the UAE, KSA, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Lebanon, Iraq, Oman, and Egypt later this summer. Official pricing details are still under wraps, but expectations are high for it to be an accessible EV option.

While the Chevy Spark EUV is currently destined for overseas markets and unlikely to reach the US, Electrek notes this is potentially a missed opportunity for American consumers. A practical, enjoyable, and, most importantly, affordable EV like the Spark EUV could be a significant success in the US market if priced correctly. Considering the Baojun Yep’s starting price of under $12,000 in China, a sub-$20,000 MSRP for the Chevy Spark EUV in other markets seems plausible and highly attractive.
