This time is believed to be among the quickest ever recorded for a stock production car available in the US. Not to be outdone, Ranger, switching to drag radials, pushed the ZR1 even further, achieving a blistering 10.730 seconds at 132.46 mph. These remarkable times were achieved at Maryland International Raceway (MIR) under favorable weather conditions, with temperatures in the mid-50s and a Density Altitude (DA) of -350ft.
These impressive runs build upon previous experiences at a similar event in April, where Racerns and Ranger had already demonstrated the ZR1’s capability. During the April event, they achieved times of 11.05 seconds at 129.1 mph on stock tires and 10.98 seconds at 131.8 mph on drag radials. The recent event at MIR provided an opportunity to refine their techniques and capitalize on slightly improved weather conditions and track preparation.
Stock Tire Performance: Breaking into the 10s
Racerns focused initially on maximizing performance with the stock tires. Through consistent passes and adjustments to launch and shift points, he steadily improved his times. Starting from an initial 11.03, Racerns quickly broke into the 10-second range with a 10.97 at 128.35 mph, achieving a 1.703-second 60-foot time. Continued refinement culminated in the record-setting 10.85-second pass at nearly 130 mph, also with a consistent 1.70-second 60-foot time.
Drag Radial Dominance: Ranger’s 10.73 Second Run
After Racerns’ impressive stock tire runs, the focus shifted to drag radials. Ranger, known for his exceptional driving skill, took the wheel and immediately demonstrated the increased traction offered by the drag radials. Incredibly, Ranger achieved three consecutive 10.73-second passes. The quickest of these clocked in at 10.730 seconds at an impressive 132.46 mph. Even his subsequent run, despite a slightly slower top speed potentially due to heat soak, highlighted an even quicker 6.998-second 1/8 mile time, demonstrating the ZR1’s phenomenal launch capabilities.
