Electrifying Performance: Macan 4 and Macan Turbo Specs

“Our ambition is to deliver the sportiest vehicle in its class with the all-electric Macan,” affirms Jörg Kerner, Vice President Product Line Macan. To achieve this, Porsche utilizes cutting-edge, permanently excited PSM electric motors on both front and rear axles. This configuration not only ensures exceptional efficiency but also guarantees consistent and reproducible power delivery – a crucial aspect for performance driving.

The performance figures of the electric Porsche Macan models are truly remarkable. The Macan 4, when utilizing Launch Control, unleashes up to 300 kW (408 PS) of overboost power. For those seeking even more exhilaration, the Macan Turbo escalates this to a staggering 470 kW (639 PS). Torque figures are equally impressive, with the Macan 4 generating 650 Nm and the Macan Turbo delivering a massive 1,130 Nm.

These power outputs translate to breathtaking acceleration. The Macan 4 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds, while the Macan Turbo accomplishes this feat in a mere 3.3 seconds. Top speeds are equally impressive, with the Macan 4 reaching 220 km/h and the Macan Turbo hitting 260 km/h, solidifying their positions as true sports cars in the electric SUV segment.

Advanced 800-Volt Architecture and Charging

Powering these impressive electric Porsche models is a lithium-ion battery housed in the underbody, boasting a gross capacity of 100 kWh, with 95 kWh available for active use. This battery is a core component of the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, featuring 800-volt technology – a first for Porsche in the Macan.

The 800-volt architecture enables high-performance fast charging at up to 270 kW. At compatible fast-charging stations, the battery can be replenished from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 21 minutes. For broader compatibility, at 400-volt charging stations, an integrated high-voltage switch intelligently splits the 800-volt battery into two 400-volt sections, facilitating efficient charging up to 135 kW without requiring an additional HV booster. For home charging, AC charging up to 11 kW is supported via standard wall boxes.

Energy recuperation during driving, up to 240 kW, further enhances efficiency. The Integrated Power Box (IPB), a compact and innovative unit, combines the on-board AC charger, high-voltage heater, and DC/DC converter, contributing to both weight and space savings. The Macan 4 achieves a combined WLTP range of up to 613 km, while the Macan Turbo offers up to 591 km, ensuring ample range for long journeys.

Sporty Design and Aerodynamic Excellence

The new Macan models exude dynamism and dominance through their sharper proportions and unmistakable Porsche Design DNA. Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche, emphasizes, “With the all-electric Macan, we are introducing the first Porsche that transitions an established product identity into the electric realm.” He further notes that the new Macan is instantly recognizable as a Porsche, with classic proportions evolved and optimized for the electric vehicle era. This design philosophy results in a sportier, more modern, and dynamic appearance, reinforcing the Macan’s position as the sports car within its segment, even in electric form.

The Macan’s sporty silhouette is defined by a shallow bonnet pitch, pronounced wings, and coupe-like lines. Measuring 4,784 mm in length, 1,938 mm in width, and 1,622 mm in height, the SUV boasts a dynamic stance even at a standstill. Wheel sizes up to 22 inches with staggered tyre fitment further enhance its athletic appearance. A wheelbase extended by 86 mm compared to the previous model (now 2,893 mm) is balanced by short overhangs, contributing to both aesthetics and interior space.

The headlight design is split into two parts: a flat upper unit with four-point daytime running lights integrated into the wings, and the main headlight module positioned slightly lower in the front end, optionally featuring matrix LED technology. The iconic Porsche flyline seamlessly merges with the flat rear window, while frameless doors and signature side blades add to the sleek, sporty profile. Sculpted shoulders give the rear a muscular look, and the Porsche logo is now centrally positioned within the three-dimensional light strip.

Aerodynamic efficiency is paramount in the electric Porsche Macan. Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA), incorporating active and passive elements, results in a drag coefficient of just 0.25, making the Macan one of the most streamlined SUVs available. This contributes significantly to both range and reduced power consumption. PAA features include an adaptive rear spoiler, active cooling flaps in the front air intakes, flexible underbody covers, air curtains below the headlights, and aerodynamically optimized tear-off edges and a louvred diffuser at the rear.

Enhanced Practicality and Digital Interior

Electrification has not only boosted performance and efficiency but also expanded the practicality of the Macan. Luggage space behind the rear seats is increased to up to 540 liters (in cargo mode), and a ‘frunk’ under the bonnet adds an extra 84 liters, totaling 136 liters more than its predecessor. Folding the rear seats expands the rear luggage compartment to a substantial 1,348 liters. Furthermore, a towing capacity of up to 2,000 kg enhances the versatility of this electric Porsche SUV.

Inside, the Macan offers a distinctly Porsche environment with advanced digital interfaces and select analogue controls. Front occupants sit up to 28 mm lower, while rear passengers enjoy 15 mm lower seating with improved legroom. The cockpit emphasizes width with an integrated black panel, and the rising center console creates a performance-focused driving position. Large windows contribute to an airy cabin feel. An LED light strip integrated into the cockpit and door trim serves as both ambient lighting and a communication light, providing greetings, charging status updates, and warnings from driver assistance systems.

The Macan features a state-of-the-art display and operating system with up to three screens: a 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster, a 10.9-inch central display, and an optional 10.9-inch passenger display. For the first time in a Macan, a head-up display with augmented reality technology is available, projecting virtual elements like navigation arrows seamlessly into the driver’s field of view. The new infotainment system, based on Android Automotive OS, delivers enhanced computing power and features the “Hey Porsche” voice assistant and the Porsche App Centre for direct access to third-party apps. Porsche is also committed to sustainability, incorporating ecological materials in selected interior parts of the all-electric Macan.

Driving Dynamics and Technology

True to its Porsche heritage, the electric Porsche Macan is engineered for exceptional driving dynamics. Jörg Kerner highlights the sporty seating position, low center of gravity, and steering precision, creating a genuine sports car feel. Both Macan 4 and Turbo models feature all-wheel drive with electronically controlled Porsche Traction Management (ePTM), which reacts five times faster than traditional systems, adjusting to slip within 10 milliseconds. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) on the Macan Turbo further enhances traction, stability, and lateral dynamics.

Air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is standard on the Turbo and optional on the Macan 4, featuring new two-valve damper technology for a wider spectrum between comfort and performance. For the first time, rear-axle steering is available as an option, reducing the turning circle to 11.1 meters and enhancing both maneuverability and high-speed stability.

A New Chapter for the Porsche Macan

Since 2014, over 800,000 units of the Porsche Macan have been delivered globally, and this all-electric successor is poised to continue this success story. Produced in a net carbon-neutral manner at the Porsche Plant Leipzig, the new electric Porsche Macan models are set to reach first customers in the second half of the year, marking a significant milestone in Porsche’s electric future and the broader automotive landscape. The electric Porsche Macan is not just an electric SUV; it’s a Porsche, reimagined for the electric age.
