A recently released teaser video is fueling speculation that the retro-futuristic hydrogen-powered supercar might be closer to reality than previously thought. The Hyundai N Vision 74, a vehicle that has captured the imagination of automotive enthusiasts worldwide, appears to be subtly showcased in a trailer for The Great Heritage-CAR documentary. This documentary, available on the South Korean streaming service WAVVE, delves into Hyundai’s history and hints at future models, making the N Vision 74’s appearance all the more intriguing.

Eagle-eyed viewers spotted what seems to be the Hyundai N Vision 74 at the 1:05 mark in the trailer. While intentionally blurred, the vehicle’s silhouette strongly resembles the concept car, especially as it’s positioned next to the unveiled N Vision 74 concept. This strategic placement and simultaneous movement of both vehicles suggest that Hyundai isn’t just showcasing the concept, but possibly teasing its production counterpart. It would be unusual for Hyundai to obscure a completely different vehicle in such a manner. Given the concept’s debut nearly three years ago, the blurred car is highly likely to be the much-anticipated production version of the Hyundai N Vision 74.

Hyundai itself added to the excitement when it confirmed plans last August to put the N Vision 74 into production. This announcement followed earlier conflicting reports, leaving fans uncertain about the vehicle’s fate. The N Vision 74 is slated to be one of Hyundai’s “high-performance EVs,” sharing the spotlight with the upcoming Ioniq 6 N. However, unlike the purely battery-electric Ioniq 6 N, the Hyundai N Vision 74 boasts a unique hybrid powertrain. It combines a 62.4-kWh battery pack with hydrogen fuel cell technology, utilizing two hydrogen tanks holding 4.2 kilograms of hydrogen. This innovative combination technically classifies it as a hybrid, albeit one without a traditional combustion engine.

Hydrogen’s Role and the N Vision 74’s Performance

Hyundai’s commitment to hydrogen technology is further emphasized by the Initium concept, previewing the Nexo’s successor. The Hyundai N Vision 74 concept showcased impressive performance figures, featuring dual rear-mounted electric motors generating over 671 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. This translated to a theoretical driving range exceeding 373 miles.

Moreover, the N Vision 74’s 800-volt architecture allows for rapid 18-minute battery charging (10-80%) and an even quicker five-minute hydrogen refueling time. The front-mounted fuel cell stack, producing 95 kilowatts, supplements the motors and battery charging. Performance-wise, Hyundai estimated a 0-60 mph acceleration in under four seconds and a top speed exceeding 155 mph, making the Hyundai N Vision 74 a true performance machine.

Design Heritage and Production Anticipation

The Hyundai N Vision 74’s design is a modern homage to Giorgetto Giugiaro’s 1974 Hyundai Pony Coupe concept, blending retro aesthetics with futuristic technology. The concept’s dimensions highlight its substantial presence: 194.6 inches long, 78.5 inches wide, and 52.4 inches tall, with a 114.3-inch wheelbase.

Hyundai has confirmed it as part of their plan to launch 21 electric models by 2030.
