CX-9 Sport

The base Sport trim of the 2016 Mazda CX-9 comes generously equipped with standard features including LED headlights and taillights, reminiscent of the design found in the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata. Inside, the CX-9 Sport features fabric seating surfaces and an electronic parking brake. It rides on 18-inch wheels and includes a rear backup camera and trailer stability assist for enhanced safety and convenience. The MAZDA CONNECT™ infotainment system with Commander control and a seven-inch color display is also standard. For those seeking added comfort, the optional Sport Package provides a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and heated door mirrors.

CX-9 Touring

Stepping up to the Touring trim, the 2016 Mazda CX-9 adds a range of premium features. These include an auto-dimming rearview mirror, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert for improved driver awareness, and HomeLink garage door openers for added convenience. The interior is upgraded with black or sand-colored leather seating surfaces and the Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry System. A power liftgate and power front seats further enhance convenience, while the MAZDA CONNECT™ system is upgraded to an eight-inch touchscreen display. Customers can further enhance the Touring model with the Touring Premium Package, which includes automatic on/off headlights, LED fog lights, navigation, a premium 12-speaker BOSE® audio system, rain-sensing wipers, rear backup sensors, second-row retractable sunshades, SiriusXM satellite radio, automatic Smart City Brake Support, and a sunroof.

CX-9 Grand Touring

The Grand Touring model of the 2016 Mazda CX-9 builds upon the Sport and Touring trims, introducing even more sophisticated features. It includes an Adaptive Front-lighting System and larger 20-inch wheels. The interior receives aluminum trim accents, and Mazda’s innovative Active Driving Display, which projects instrument and navigation information onto the windshield, is included. Additional driver-assistance features in the Grand Touring trim are high-beam control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Smart Brake Support. Roof rails and memory settings for the driver’s seat are also standard on this trim.

CX-9 Signature

At the top of the lineup is the CX-9 Signature, representing the most luxurious and technologically advanced version of the 2016 Mazda CX-9. This model comes standard with Mazda’s predictive i-ACTIV all-wheel drive system. This advanced AWD system utilizes 27 sensors, measuring conditions over 200 times per second to precisely distribute power to each wheel, maximizing traction and control in various driving situations. The interior of the CX-9 Signature is adorned with Auburn-colored Nappa leather and rosewood trim supplied by Japanese guitar maker Fujigen, adding a touch of exclusivity and craftsmanship. LED signature accent grille lighting and LED accent lighting around the automatic shifter further distinguish the Signature model.

Engine and Performance of the 2016 Mazda CX-9

All 2016 Mazda CX-9 models are powered by Mazda’s new SKYACTIV-G 2.5T turbocharged engine. This engine is engineered to deliver strong performance and efficiency, producing a substantial 310 lb-ft of torque from just 2,000 rpm, regardless of whether using 87 or 93-octane gasoline. The engine generates 250 horsepower on 93-octane gasoline (or 227 horsepower on 87-octane). Notably, the 2016 CX-9 achieves class-leading EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 22 mpg city/28 mpg highway/25 mpg combined in front-wheel-drive configuration, regardless of gasoline grade. The SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine is paired with a standard SKYACTIV-DRIVE six-speed automatic transmission and is available with either front-wheel drive or the i-ACTIV all-wheel drive system (standard on Signature, optional on other trims).
