Since its debut as the Celica Supra in 1978, the Toyota Supra has captivated fans with its classic front-engine, rear-wheel-drive setup and inline six-cylinder engine – a tradition faithfully maintained across generations. From public roads to racing circuits, the Supra has consistently delivered driving pleasure and performance.

After a 17-year hiatus, the Supra made a triumphant return in 2019, fueled by the passion of Chairman Akio Toyoda, also known as Master Driver Morizo. Toyoda’s words at the time of release reflected his deep connection to the car: “Supra is like an old friend that holds a special place in my heart. The new GR Supra was born through testing at Nürburgring, and I can honestly say that it is a car that is fun to drive and better than ever.”

The current Supra has continuously evolved since its 2019 relaunch. The introduction of a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine in 2020, alongside the 3.0-liter straight-six, broadened its appeal while retaining the core sports car essence. In 2022, Toyota introduced a six-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT) in Europe, specifically engineered for the 3.0-liter engine, catering to driving purists who crave manual control. Simultaneously, braking and suspension systems were refined for even greater performance.

Engine output sees a significant jump from 340 DIN hp (250 kW) to 435 DIN hp (320 kW), with torque increasing from 500 Nm to 570 Nm. This translates to quicker acceleration and enhanced responsiveness, along with a top speed increase to 270km/h. These improvements are realized through revisions to the intake air path, a low-back-pressure catalyst for reduced pressure loss, and optimized engine control systems.

Cornering prowess is taken to the extreme in the A90 Final Edition. It features damping-force-adjustable KW suspension – the same brand used in the GR Supra GT4 race car – offering 16 rebound and 12 compression stages. This allows for finely tuned handling across diverse driving conditions. Further handling enhancements include adjusted camber angles on both front and rear wheels for increased grip, and optimized active differential control to minimize understeer.

Steering feel is sharpened with exclusive electric power steering settings tailored for the A90 Final Edition. The connection between driver and road is intensified through body reinforcement braces, including a strengthened rear luggage space crossbar, the same rigid aluminum rear subframe mount as the GR Supra GT4, and strengthened front and rear stabilizers. These modifications create a more direct and confident driving experience in this new supra.

Wider 10mm tires and lightweight 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, adorned with the TGR logo, contribute to enhanced grip and cornering stability. High-grip Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires further encourage drivers to explore the limits of performance. Braking is also significantly upgraded with 19-inch Brembo front brakes featuring high friction coefficient brake pads and drilled floating discs both front and rear, ensuring exceptional stopping power even under demanding sports driving conditions. Stainless steel mesh brake hoses minimize pressure loss during braking, maximizing the effectiveness of the enhanced brake system.

To ensure peak performance is maintained alongside the increased cornering capabilities and engine output, a baffle plate is integrated into the engine oil pan to prevent oil starvation under high g-forces. Cooling is also augmented with a strengthened radiator cooling fan, an added sub-radiator, and enlarged differential gear cover cooling fins.

The A90 Final Edition’s striking appearance includes a unique matt black exterior color and motorsport-derived aerodynamic enhancements developed by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Europe (TGR-E). These include a carbon-fiber front spoiler, front canards, and front center flap, along with a GR Supra GT4-style carbon-fiber swan-neck rear wing. These elements work in concert to optimize aerodynamic balance, downforce, and drag, improving road contact and driving dynamics. A new carbon-fiber bonnet duct with a removable inner element provides additional cooling when needed. An Akrapovič titanium muffler, inspired by the GR Supra GT4, amplifies the engine’s sound, adding to the aural excitement of this new supra.

Inside, the driver-centric cabin features RECARO Podium CF full-bucket seats upholstered in racy red Alcantara, ensuring optimal driving position and support even under high g-forces. Red seatbelts, exclusive carbon fiber scuff plates, and extensive Alcantara trim, including on the steering wheel, further emphasize the limited edition’s exclusivity.

GR Supra Lightweight EVO: Refining the Driving Experience

The GR Supra Lightweight EVO is a direct result of customer feedback and TGR’s commitment to continuous improvement through motorsport participation. This model elevates the driving experience to a new level by focusing on enhanced driver connection and agility in this new supra.

Refined confidence and precision are achieved through active differential control and exclusive control maps, which optimize traction and reduce understeer during cornering.
