PRODUCT: Legendary Vehicles, American Made by Nissan

From Steel to Wheels: Nissan’s Advanced Manufacturing Process

Nissan’s manufacturing process is meticulously designed and technologically advanced. The New Model Team utilizes cutting-edge 3D technology and virtual reality tools, similar to flight simulators used by airline pilots, to optimize ergonomics and part placement during manufacturing. This virtual approach ensures vehicles are assembled safely, efficiently, and with consistent quality.

From the initial stamping of metal to the final quality inspection, the average time to manufacture a Nissan vehicle is approximately 20 hours.

SWIPE

Stamping: Shaping the Vehicle’s Foundation

The vehicle creation process begins with massive stamping presses. Flat sheets of metal are fed into these presses, which apply up to 5,400 tons of pressure to precisely shape each chassis component. In the subsequent stage, specialized dies act as giant cookie cutters, pressing the formed metal into three-dimensional shapes that constitute the vehicle’s interior and exterior frame.

Body Assembly: Bringing the Vehicle to Life

The vehicle body begins to take its familiar form in the body assembly stage. Thousands of robots work in concert, utilizing precise electrical welds to join the stamped parts, creating the vehicle’s robust structure. Once the body assembly is complete, the vehicle is ready for the paint shop.

Paint: Achieving a Lustrous Finish

Each Nissan vehicle body is prepared to become a masterpiece of automotive artistry in the paint shop. After the metal bodies are assembled, they undergo a thorough cleaning process to remove any dust and contaminants. A sealant is then applied, and both the vehicle body and paint are electrically charged to enhance adhesion and paint durability. The body is sanded, primed, and finally finished with a topcoat of high-quality paint, resulting in a brilliant and lasting finish.

Trim & Chassis: Assembling the Components

The trim and chassis stage is where the vehicle truly comes to life. Highly skilled technicians meticulously install a vast array of components, including the dashboard, steering wheel, seats, electrical systems, engine, wheels, tires, and more. To complete the vehicle’s structure, the doors, hood, and rear hatch – which have been moving along a parallel conveyor belt – are expertly attached by technicians.

Quality Assurance: Ensuring Customer Satisfaction

Once a Nissan vehicle rolls off the assembly line for the first time, it undergoes rigorous inspections at numerous points to ensure safety, reliability, and overall dependability. This comprehensive quality control process is paramount to achieving complete customer satisfaction. Finally, each vehicle is road-tested on a dedicated 1-mile track before being prepared for its journey to a Nissan dealership.

Nissan recognizes that the communities where its employees live and work are essential to their well-being and the overall success of the company.
