Stepping up from previous electric kick scooter models, including a basic Swagtron and a Speedway V, my first ride on the Solar P1 Pro electric scooter was a revelation. Having owned and used electric scooters for years, the difference was immediately noticeable. The addition of a saddle was a key factor for my comfort, and at 5’5″, finding the perfect saddle height required some adjustment, a contrast to the lower-riding Speedway V which often struggled with even minor curbs.
One of the most significant improvements is the thumb throttle. Moving away from finger throttles, and with concerns about twist throttles due to wrist issues, the thumb throttle on the Solar P1 Pro offers far superior control and ease of use. The acceleration is remarkably smooth, and the quietness of the motor is a welcome change from the jerky and noisy Speedway V.
Living in an area with poorly maintained roads, the off-road tires are an absolute game-changer. Street tires on previous scooters provided a jarring and uncomfortable ride on uneven surfaces. The Solar P1 Pro handles these road conditions with ease, offering a smooth and comfortable experience.
The wide display is clear and informative, and the option to switch between dual and single motor (front or rear) provides great flexibility for different riding conditions and battery conservation. The brighter and wider headlight enhances visibility for safer night riding, and features like cruise control and various riding modes add to the overall convenience and enjoyment. Even small details like the quiet turn signals and the car-like horn demonstrate thoughtful design.
Security is also a strong point, with password protection and a car alarm system included. While my Speedway V later offered a fingerprint reader option, it was never consistently available. The kickstand on the Solar P1 Pro is also a notable improvement, offering better stability and a more robust design compared to previous scooters. Overall, the build quality of the Solar P1 Pro feels significantly more solid and durable than the Speedway V.
Considering the comparable price points of these scooters without modifications, the Solar P1 Pro truly feels like a substantial upgrade. My only minor critique would be the need for a more detailed assembly manual, particularly for models with saddles. However, Solar Motors customer service has been exceptionally patient and helpful in addressing my assembly questions and any initial confusion. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase of the Solar P1 Pro electric scooter.
