The City of Tacoma is committed to understanding and responding to the needs of its residents. A key tool in this effort is the biennial Community Survey, a scientific study designed to capture the priorities and satisfaction levels of Tacoma’s diverse population. The latest iteration, the Tacoma 2024 Community Survey, continues this important tradition of community engagement.
Conducted in June and July of 2024, the Tacoma 2024 Community Survey reached 905 randomly selected households across all five Council Districts. Ensuring a representative sample, the survey’s demographics, including race, gender, and household income, were carefully aligned with census data, reflecting the true composition of Tacoma’s residents. This rigorous approach ensures that the results accurately portray the views of the community as a whole.
Building upon the success of previous cycles, the Tacoma 2024 survey follows the established pattern of gathering crucial feedback. The 2022 Community Survey, for instance, engaged 750 residents between November 2021 and January 2022, focusing on identifying important city services and potential future challenges. Similarly, the 2019-2020 survey, conducted from November to December 2019, also reached 750 households across Tacoma, aiming to pinpoint service areas needing improvement and those performing well.
The data collected from the Tacoma 2024 Community Survey, and its predecessors, is invaluable for city leadership. These surveys provide a critical snapshot of community sentiment, directly informing budget decisions and funding priorities. City departments across Tacoma utilize survey findings to target specific services for enhancement and to evaluate the efficiency of daily operations. By directly incorporating resident feedback, Tacoma ensures its services are aligned with community needs and expectations.
