Discovering the Enigmatic Verrill Wolf Wagon: A Unique American Automobile

As a content creator for cardiagnosticnearme.com and a dedicated auto repair specialist, I’m always captivated by the extraordinary vehicles that emerge from the automotive world. There’s something truly special about one-off cars, those singular expressions of automotive passion and ingenuity. Whether they’re sleek and streamlined or possess a more unconventional aesthetic, these creations embody the realization of a dream, often born from the vision of an individual or a small, determined team. Today, we delve into the fascinating story of the Verrill Wolf Wagon, a remarkable custom Wagon Automobile that exemplifies this spirit of automotive artistry.

My first encounter with this impressive 24-foot long boulevard cruiser happened around eight years ago. I stumbled upon a collage of images in a 1997 issue of Collectible Automobile Magazine showcasing the Wolf Wagon at a car show. It was simply identified by name, devoid of any historical context. Intriguingly, each subsequent time I’ve come across a photograph of this vehicle, a similar veil of mystery has surrounded it. This scarcity of information only deepened my fascination – the kind of automotive enigma I truly relish!

Eventually, I traced the car to its current residence in Pennsylvania, part of the esteemed collection of Patricia Swigart. While the car has been in her collection for many years, detailed information remained elusive, aside from some basic knowledge about its designer and the approximate period of its creation.

Let’s explore a collection of photos I’ve gathered of this remarkable wagon automobile over the years. You’ll soon understand why it has held my attention for so long:

Restoration and Grand Exhibition of the Wolf Wagon Automobile

Although the Verrill Wolf Wagon has been remarkably well-preserved, a decision was made in 2013 to embark on a comprehensive restoration. In a brilliant and innovative approach, the restoration was entrusted to the capable hands of students at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. The culmination of their dedicated efforts was the unveiling of the beautifully restored wagon automobile at the prestigious 2014 Elegance at Hershey, a renowned concours d’elegance held in Hershey, Pennsylvania. This provided a fantastic platform to showcase this unique piece of automotive history to a discerning audience.

Unraveling the History of this Exceptional Wagon Automobile

Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting Bud Juneau, a distinguished automotive historian whom I previously introduced in the context of the Packard Proving Grounds and the movie Johnny Dark. Bud’s expertise lies in meticulously researching and uncovering the intricate details of remarkable cars, sharing their complete and often untold stories with the world.

And he has once again applied his exceptional skills to the Verrill Wolf Wagon.

Bud undertook the task that had eluded everyone before – to thoroughly investigate, document, and reveal the complete history of the Verrill Wolf Wagon and its visionary designer, Thomas D. Verrill. I’m thrilled to announce that this captivating narrative is now available in the April 2015 issue of Collectible Automobile Magazine. I highly recommend seeking out this issue to discover “the rest of the story,” as Paul Harvey would say, about this extraordinary individual and his magnificent boulevard cruiser within the pages of this esteemed publication.
